Taste test

October 20th, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

For the last two weeks we have been looking at the story of the Little Red Hen.

This week we have made bread, tasted out own bread and written out instructions on how we have made it. Today to finish off our week we have been tasting a range of different breads both savoury and sweet to see what we like and which is our favourite.

We tried a naan bread, a cheesy roll and a seedy loaf as well as a brioche loaf, a fruity bread and a croissant.

We all had different favourites, which was yours?

What did they taste like?

Farmer friends

We have been so lucky to be visited today by farmer John. He came in to see us today with his farm dog Rob.

Before he came we thought of some questions to ask him, here are some of our ideas:

Carson- Have you got any cows?

Tilar- Do you have chickens?

Maddison- Have you got a sheep dog?

Georgia- Do you have a tractor?

We all wanted to know what he grows on his farm and how long he has been a farmer.

Farmer John was so friendly and answered all of our questions. He told us about the animals on his farm and the fruit and vegetables that he grows. He even brought a lucky dip bag for us to feel around in and pick out some of the produce that he grows.

What did you pick out?

Can you remember where it grows?

What else would you like to ask Farmer John?

The Little Red Hen

October 11th, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

This week we have been reading a story called the Little Red Hen.

It is all about a hen who works hard on her farm to plant, water and harvest some wheat and then make it into a delicious loaf of bread.

Can you remember who she asks to help her?

Did they help her?

Cheeping chicks

October 9th, 2017 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Over the weekend the chicks have been on their holidays to Miss Oakley’s house.

We can’t believe how different they look this morning. We have been looking at them really carefully this morning and doing some drawings of them.

We have noticed that;

Emmy- They were smaller.

Eva- They are bigger.

Sienna- They are trying to fly.

Lilly-Ann- They are jumping around.

Holly- They are flapping.

We all noticed that their fluffy little wings are beginning to grow real feathers underneath.

9 happy chicks

We have 9 happy and very fluffy chicks.

They have been moved into their brooder box.

Some of us have been very lucky and been able to stroke the chicks today.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed that our last egg hatches soon.

Chicks are hatching!

This morning we have come into nursery to find that we have 4 new additions to F1.

the chicks have been hatching over night and we have 3 more with cracks in that we hope will hatch at some point today. When they are fluffy and dry they will be transferred into a box with a heat lamp in so that they have more space to move around.

We have has a special delivery in nursery!

Yesterday 10 eggs arrived in nursery in an incubator. Hopefully by the end of the week we will have 10 baby chicks that will have hatched out of their eggs.

Over the next few weeks we will be learning about how to look after our eggs and what we need to do when the chicks hatch.

Do you know anything about how to look after chicks?

Where do chicks live?

Have you seen a chick before?

Macmillan Coffee morning

On Friday we had our Macmillan Coffee Morning.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who supported us with our Macmillan Coffee event. There were LOTS of lovely, yummy, baked goods donated. We raised £473.12 for such a worthwhile cause.

A special thank you to a wonderful baking grandparent who made this beautiful cake on behalf of nursery! It was auctioned off and helped to raise that amazing total!

Thank you again.
